Objectives
Severals studies provie evidence that host range and virulence of influenza A viruses are partly determined by patterns of interactions between the viral polymerase complex and host proteins. A better undestanding of this determinism is still needed in order to better understand the mechanisms that limit interspecies transmission and adaptation to new hosts and to be able to survey the emergence of influenza A viruses with the potential to cause severe disease in humans. The aim of this WP3 is to identify cellular factors interacting with the polymerase complex to evaluate their importance with respect to host range and virulence, and to investigate the molecular mechanisms involved.
